Teletext and art - a successful connection goes into the sixth round
ARD Text presents "The wonderful world of Horsenburger"
After the successful teletext art festivals in the past summers, in September 2018 art will again be given a box seat in the ARD text.
For this, the British artist Steve Horsley was selected, better known in the internet as "Horsenburger".
For four weeks, he will be part of ARD Text's offer as an artist-in-residence and will surprise viewers daily with new teletext art works.
The Briton worked professionally in the 90s as a teletext graphic designer and produced according to own statements foremost horses and footballs for teletext pages. Only two years ago, his passion for the colorful pixel graphics woke up again. Since then he has created a colorful universe in teletext format that includes more than 2000 graphics.
The audience will now see a section of this in the ARD text from page 840 onwards. At the end of the exhibition viewers will be able to vote for your favorite.
Teletext artists are given a narrow framework by the technology. There are only six colors plus black and white and a limited number of pixels. "It always surprises me that with these limited possibilities such impressive pictures are created," explains Frauke Langguth, director of ARD Text. "We have been showing teletext art in the ARD text for several years - but the possibilities of the medium are far from exhausted."
ARD Text has been on air for over 38 years. Millions of people are still using teletext every day. According to ARD Trend 2017, ARD Text is the most popular teletext and is the best rated by the audience.
